Warehouse Team Leader

Warehouse Team Leader – Bolton

Full-time | 40 hours/week | Monday–Friday

We’re looking for a proactive, hands-on Warehouse Team Leader to join our operations team in Bolton. In this key role, you'll oversee day-to-day warehouse activities, lead a team, and help drive a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

If you're an experienced warehouse leader—ideally with a background in metals—you'll feel right at home here. You’ll be working closely with other departments, ensuring high performance, team development, and operational excellence across the site.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

  • Coach, train, and develop your team to achieve performance goals and foster continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular appraisals, identify talent, and manage underperformance in partnership with HR.
  • Create a supportive, open-door environment where communication and feedback are encouraged.
  • Manage attendance, discipline, grievances, and general team wellbeing.
  • Lead by example and act as a champion for change initiatives and process improvements.

Operations & Continuous Improvement

  • Plan, coordinate and oversee daily warehouse functions, including manning levels and sawing activities.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to resolve operational challenges and escalate as needed.
  • Monitor and improve productivity, stock accuracy, and material flow.
  • Manage external contractors and third-party service providers through the permit-to-work process.
  • Collaborate with the operations manager to implement best practices and internal policies, including production strategies and logistics.

QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment)

  • Promote a safety-first culture through toolbox talks, risk assessments, and daily checks.
  • Conduct and lead investigations into incidents or near-misses, implementing root cause analysis and follow-ups.
  • Ensure all equipment, PPE, and machinery are maintained to a safe, compliant standard.
  • Work alongside the QHSE team to ensure audits, policies, and training are delivered effectively.

Daily Warehouse Operations

  • Liaise with the stock controller to ensure accurate stock checks and perpetual inventory management.

  • Oversee the safe operation of side loaders, cranes, and overhead lifting equipment.

  • Ensure all materials are correctly stored and prepared for dispatch or processing.

  • Deliver daily briefings and contribute to weekly/quarterly communications to keep teams aligned.

Site Performance & KPIs

  • Identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities.
  • Track and communicate site performance against KPIs.
  • Ensure manpower and resources are optimised, particularly in value-added activities like saw cutting.

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience in a warehouse leadership role (metal industry preferred)
  • Strong people management and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of health & safety, inventory control, and warehouse best practices
  • Familiarity with Lean / Six Sigma principles (preferred)
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to lead from the front
  • Good standard of education or time-served equivalent
